Alberto Alessi

Creative visionary, design icon and innovative mastermind in art.

Born in Arona (Novara) in 1946, Alberto Alessi is President of Alessi S.p.A. Società Benefit. The eldest son of Carlo Alessi, he belongs to the third generation of the Alessi family, and officially joined the company in 1970, the day after graduating with a law degree. To begin with, he was in charge of the commercial side of things, new product development and communication. In 1970, Alberto started collaborating with architects and designers from all over the world, further enhancing the company’s reputation of working with key names in the field of international design.

Alberto Alessi has written several books including “La Cintura di Orione” (Longanesi, Milano 1987) “Not in Production, Next to Production” (Alessi Spa, Crusinallo 1988) and “The Dream Factory: Alessi since 1921” (Rizzoli, Milano 2016). In 2011, he curated the exhibition entitled “The Dream Factories: People, Ideas and Paradoxes of Italian Design Factories” at the Triennale Design Museum in Milan. And in 2023, he founded the company Il Tornitore Matto as a place for experimental research in the field of applied arts for the pleasure of investigating new territories where designer and entrepreneur are free to independently establish the rules of the creative process.

During his career, he has contributed articles for many international magazines and publications and is visiting professor at several design colleges.

Alongside his role as Head of Design Management on the shores of Lake Orta, Alberto Alessi is involved in the production of his own high-quality organic wines called La Signora Eugenia e il passero solitario. In October 2016, he was appointed Chevalier du Tastevin by the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin, an exclusive fraternity of Burgundy wine connoisseurs.
